Do it yourself 'ers,
listen up carefully here.
Um,
because I'm pretty sure I know what Lyndol is gonna tell me.
I've asked,
uh,
Lyndol Woodruff to join me from Woodruff Windows Greater D. F. W.
Hey,
Bud Greater D F W area.
He,
he is the window guy for you if you're in that part of Texas.
And hey,
uh,
I get these questions here at the radio show.
And you know,
this one though is I don't want to call it a silly question,
but I'm gonna pose it.
And this is,
can I install new windows myself?
That's what the homeowner is asking.
Can I install new windows myself?
And I guess if you go to the big box store,
you can buy windows a lot of downsides to that though,
starting with the window and then ending up with the installer,
which would be the homeowner.
What do you think about installing new windows?
It is a very detailed art to get them installed with such,
you know,
level of perfection to even perform,
right?
So,
no,
please don't attempt to install your own windows.
I,
that's funny.
You said that because I literally came across an article the other day designed for homeowners to install their own windows.
And I'm like,
you gotta be kidding me.
It all this super diy,
uh,
mindset these days,
like some,
some things leave to professionals.
I mean,
our installers have been doing it for decades and that's all they do.
Um,
yeah,
don't,
don't put the,
the stress on you and try.
Yeah.
No.
No,
don't do it.
Yeah.
Uh,
do not attempt this at home.
Isn't that what they say when you're,
you know,
watching,
uh America's got talent or something and someone's being shot out of a cannon at 80,000 ft or something crazy.
And on a motorcycle flipping backwards 10 times,
um,
do not attempt this at home.
This is a professional and it's true of many home improvement things you don't want to put your own roof on.
That would be just absolutely bonkers.
That's,
that's really crazy.
Ok.
Windows is one thing,
a new roof is something else you don't want to put your new H VAC system in and a lot of people wouldn't even consider that.
Of course.
Um Do you want to like maybe lay some tile in your half bath?
Sure.
Go for that.
Ok.
You can always,
not much,
not much to lose there.
Ok.
But from technology,
you know,
in the window itself to all the years of experience that a good window installer has like woodruff does it,
it doesn't make any sense.
I mean,
are you gonna pull your own teeth and drill your own teeth.
Are you gonna take your own appendix out?
And people probably think I'm being silly.
It's like that guy driving down the freeway going 70 with two mattresses on top of his truck and without fail,
he's got the arm out the window holding,
holding it.
Yeah,
the mattresses are going.
It's gonna work,
buddy.
Oh my gosh.
That Taylor I can do it.
And every once in a while we do see bed parts on the freeway.
Yes,
we do.
Uh,
and sheet rock is a big one.
People are like,
I'll just strap some four by eight sheets of sheet rock to my Subaru.
Oh,
that's a good idea.
Right.
Because how often we gonna go leave the window installation to the pros guys and it's not me.
I,
I,
no,
I wouldn't.
Mm mm.
No.
Our,
our guys,
it's amazing to watch them work.
That's why I like to go.
I go to every job site,
you know,
just to,
I,
I like watching them work.
They're,
they're phenomenal and it's an art and it does that even you're not gonna put your own windows and you're gonna hire your own guys.
I mean.
Yeah.
Right.
And,
and it's not here,
here's the next level to that question though.
The window installs one thing,
but really the caulking part to really get that window caked in with the beautiful straight,
perfect line of Caulk.
That's not splat,
that stuff's hard to work with.
It's not easy to work with.
No,
I go to so many homes.
I see.
There's ca,
all over the bricks and like,
it's crazy.
My guys are just,
I call them the Da Vinci's of their trade is what I call them because they can run a ca beat man.
And it's,
it's really astounding to see that final product.
So,
leave it to pros.
Yep.
There's something called the 10,000 hour rule.
And when you put 10,000 hours into anything,
you become an expert and do it yourself first,
who've never put windows in shouldn't even think of it.
So,
thank you very much for answering that question.
I figured you would be going down that path.
Lyndal.
Thank you,
my friend.
Thanks for it.
It,
it's,
it's funny that it has to be answered,
but yes,
thank you for allowing me the opportunity to these questions come up I figured out,
but I want you to do it.
